Art

All pupils are encouraged to express their artistic imagination
by using a wide variety of material in art lessons. We have a very
well equipped Art Room, which encourages high standards of work.
Artwork is displayed in all parts of the school.
Through the
teaching of art at Oakfield we aim to:
- give children an understanding of the meaning
and contribution of art to the culture of its time;
- develop the children’s artistic skills and
their awareness of the various qualities of different
materials;
- help children to form considered opinion
about art and the ability to value the artistic heritage of their
own and others’ societies;
- encourage children to communicate to others
their ideas and opinions about art;
- build enjoyment and enthusiasm for art in
every child;
- develop as competent and confident users of
art;
- provide access for all children to a
broad and diverse art curriculum, using the framework of the
National Curriculum;
- equip children with the knowledge,
skills and understanding to create art effectively;
- foster a love of art, and an understanding of
the creative opportunities which art can offer;
- develop children's knowledge of, and
interest in the diversity of art, and studying art from other
cultures and traditions;
- create a positive learning environment which
is both enriching and flexible;
- provide children with relevant and
purposeful tasks;
- provide children with learning
situations which are appropriate for the twenty-first century.
Through careful
choice of resources and teaching styles, we aim to develop the
following skills:
- an understanding of the world and one’s place
in it;
- the ability to explore and break down
prejudice;
- an ability to look at the world critically
and understand how meanings are created;
- ability to reason, analyse and reflect on
one’s experience and others’;
- an ability to listen and respond sensitively
to others.
Throughout Oakfield School, children are
taught manual skills and processes, by using an extensive range of
materials and tools, and working in two and three dimensions.
