Literacy

The English Team embraces a variety of styles depending on
pupils’ needs, the learning objectives and the teachers’
enthusiasms and strengths. Learning and understanding are achieved
by enthusiastic child-centred teaching, which endeavours to develop
the imagination and creativity of our pupils and ensure that they
have a deep-rooted interest in English that will remain with
them beyond their school life.
The English Team
aims:
- for all pupils to develop as competent and confident users of
language; in doing so, our focus is on the key areas of speaking
and listening, reading and writing;
- to provide access for all pupils to a broad and diverse English
curriculum, using the framework of the National Curriculum; in
doing so, we aim to ensure students achieve their full
potential;
- to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding to
read, write and speak and listen effectively;
- to foster a love of reading, and an understanding of the
creative opportunities which language offers.
- to develop pupils’ knowledge of, and interest in the diversity
of language and literary texts; this includes reading texts from
our literary heritage as well as texts from other cultures and
traditions.
- to create a positive learning environment that is both
enriching and flexible;
- to provide students with relevant and purposeful learning tasks
and opportunities for performance.
