Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care
At Oakfield pastoral care is very important to all who work
within our community. Oakfield is renowned for its positive
approach and vibrant atmosphere. Every child is made to feel valued
at Oakfield and all pupils, teachers and parents share in belonging
to the Oakfield family.
The Form Teacher
Almost all members of the teaching staff are Form Teachers and
this is a major part of their professional role. Form Teachers are
always important in the lives of developing young Oakfieldians.
Indeed they very often become extended members of individual
families!
Parents are encouraged to make the Form Teacher the first
port-of-call in any enquiry about academic matters, and
communications on pastoral matters are encouraged either through
formal appointments or informal meetings at the start and end of
the day. The School Diary and email (through the school office)
also form vital parts of communication between home and school.
A Form Teacher’s role varies according to the year group, but
all are responsible for managing the overall development of their
Form and maintain close contact with Senior Staff. Form
Teachers deliver our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship
Education programme during their ‘Form Periods’ and also encourage
all pupils to make the most of their time at Oakfield to ensure
that their talents are developed to the full. Senior Pupils are
given roles and responsibilities so that they feel valuable members
of the community and are coached to be role models to which younger
children will aspire.
Encouragement of Positive
Behaviour
Oakfieldians are expected to be well mannered and courteous in
their dealings with other members of the Schoo, with members of
staff and in the wider community. In short, a sense of
responsibility to others in the School is encouraged so that these
values are instilled in the children and become part of
their future success.
Positive behaviour is a necessary part of the provision we make
at Oakfield so that we can create and maintain a vibrant and
orderly working environment in which all members of the community
feel safe and secure and share our strong moral values.
At Oakfield we:
- foster positive, caring attitudes towards everyone where
achievements at all levels are valued
- encourage independence and self discipline so that all
children learn to accept responsibility for their own
behaviour
- have a consistent approach to behaviour throughout the school
with parental co-operation and involvement
- aim to raise children’s self esteem and foster a highly
motivated environment throughout the school.
The Right Track
Recently developed by senior staff in 2010, The Right Track is
Oakfield’s way of encouraging all members of the community to have
respect for a community code to which everyone adheres.
At Oakfield:
- Pupils have the RIGHT to learn
- Teachers have the RIGHT to teach
- Everyone has the RIGHT to be safe
T Turn up to lessons

R Respect other pupils and
staff including their property and opinions
A Always offer help
C Celebrate your successes
and those of others
K Keep striving for your best
at all times
Commitment of Senior
Staff
All Oakfield staff are committed to developing the whole child,
as they develop interpersonal skills alongside their academic
abilities.
The Principal, Deputy Principal and Head of Pre Prep are very
much part of the pastoral team at Oakfield and parents are most
welcome to come and discuss both academic and pastoral matters.
They meet with staff, both formally and informally, on a regular
basis so that they are kept fully informed about all areas of
development.
‘Line up’ is a long-established Oakfield tradition where
children in all parts of the school greet the Principal with a
cheery ‘good morning’ or 'good afternoon' - often tweaking their
caps in response. The Senior Management Team go the extra mile to
really support families at Oakfield - for many this is a great
strength of the school and one that we particularly
enjoy!
