Under 9s Tournament Triumph

The Under 9s took part in the Dolphin School Tournament for the first time and came away as well deserved winners. Eight teams were involved from six schools.  There were two groups of four in the first phase with the winners and runners up from both groups going through to the semi-final, knockout stage.

The boys in maroon started slowly in the first match against Fairley House ‘A’, never really passing the ball effectively and losing possession in midfield on far too many occasions.  0-0 at full time.  Our second opponents, Dolphin ‘B’ gave us more time on the ball and the result was a confidence boosting 3-0.  The final group match against Oliver House was a much better performance with our boys passing the ball and moving into space much more efficiently.  Philip made a good save at 1-0 up.  Another win this time 2-0.

Two wins and a draw saw the team through to the semi final knockout stage against the Roche who worked hard but never really threatened.  A single goal from Daniel was enough to see the boys through to the final against the hosts Dolphin ‘A’.

In the final our boys continued top play the ball well to each other and created a number of chances without scoring.  0-0 at full time.  This resulted in penalties where goalkeeper Philip saved two and another was missed by our opponents.  The match was therefore won 4-2 on penalties. Very well done to everyone who took part.
