Our trip to Westminster Abbey – by a Year 5 pupil

Last week seven Oakfield pupils and staff went to Westminster Abbey to attend the Commonwealth Day celebration. I was lucky enough to be one of them.

The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cornwall, Prince Henry of Wales (aka Harry), the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex were all there. I also saw the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan. I really enjoyed the speech by a commonwealth Para-Olympic gold medallist, Kurt Fearnley. I was impressed by the pageant at the beginning with flags of commonwealth countries. My favourite flags were from Sri Lanka, Belize, Kenya, Swaziland and obviously the United Kingdom. The outstanding moment of the day was seeing the Queen. She was wearing bright yellow so it was easy to see her in the crowd. We saw lots of Olympians. I feel very privileged to have been asked to represent the school.
